Fighting for balance…

Raising a family is a full time job in itself while providing for that family requires yet another full time job. As most American parents know all too well, we struggle to find the balance to make it all work.  Our own health and well being, more often than not, gets sidelined in order to fulfill our obligations.  For two of our members Joanie Willard and Matt Phillips, this was their reality before walking through our door….

“I had been working to lose weight for almost a year but it was slow going and I was really struggling to find an exercise that I really liked and that I would stick with. Since I have two kids who both play sports and I work full time it was also hard to find something that would fit my schedule. Some friends were going to TMX so I decided to give it a shot. I was really nervous that the gym wouldn’t be “woman friendly” and that the trainers and other members wouldn’t be patient or accepting of an out of shape mom but, nothing could have been further from the truth. The coaches and members were all so supportive and encouraging that I quickly felt comfortable. I started slow, going twice a week, then three, eventually working my way up to five days a week. Although the classes were (and still are!) challenging I was able to go at my own pace and still get a great workout. Soon I was able to do things I never thought I’d be able to do, which really made me want to keep going. I was losing pounds and inches consistently which also helped keep me motivated. In September my boyfriend Matt Phillips decided to join. He had also been working to lose weight and preparing for his black belt in Krav Maga so he really wanted to increase his workouts. With all the different class times offered we were able to make it work to fit our schedules. By December I was down 50lbs and Matt was down 25. The weight loss has been wonderful but even better has been the increased energy and endurance and how great we both feel overall. I also really enjoy the sense of friendship and community at TMX and I feel really lucky to be a part of it.”

We here at TMX feel equally lucky to have members like Joanie and Matt. We are psyched they are part of our family!
